The mouse, the dream and the friends
Once upon a time, there was a small mouse named
Miguelito. He was very hungry when he woke up in the morning and left his
hole, which was his home, to find some food. He had not to go too far and
found a nut. He thrusted his big teeth into the shell to break it. It took
him some time, but then the shell cracked and the tasty inside of the nut lay
in front of him.
By then he had become very hungry and began to
eat. However, suddenly he felt a paw on his back and when he looked back he
saw a big mouse. “You don’t want to eat it, do you? I’m sure, you will give
it to me,” said the big mouse with a big grin on his face. Miguelito knew
that he would have no chance in fighting for the nut because the other mouse
was much bigger. So, he got up, asked for pardon and went away while the big
mouse began to eat the tasty inside of the nut.
Miguelito was very sad and even hungrier. He went
back into is hole, laid down and a big tear ran down his cheek. With an empty
stomach but tired, he fell asleep and began to dream.
First, he dreamt he was a cat. Proudly he went
for a walk and when he saw the big mouse who had stolen his nut, he chased
him.
The mouse jumped over some branches, under some
bushes, but did not have a chance, Miguelito now a cat, soon caught up with
the mouse and held it up in the air by its tail. However, as he looked at the
mouse hanging on its tail and trembling, he felt a paw on his shoulder. “You
don’t really want this mouse, do you? You will give it to me.” When Miguelito
turned around, he saw a very big cat, stepped back, gave the bigger cat the
mouse and ran away very happy to have avoided a fight with the stronger one.
A big tear ran down on Miguelito’s cheek again.
Second, he dreamt of being a dog. Again proudly,
he went for a walk and when he saw the big cat, he began to chase it. Soon he
caught up with the cat and held it up in the air by its tail. However, just
when Miguelito, now a dog, looked at the cat, he felt a paw on his back. “You
don’t want this cat, do you? Give it to me!” A big dog stood behind him.
Miguelito went away and a big tear ran down his cheek.
Third, he dreamt of being a bull. Miguelito, now
a bull, proudly went for a walk and when he saw the big dog, he began to
chase him. The bull was much faster than the dog and after a while caught up
with him. However, when he held up the dog by its tail he heard a voice
behind him. And when he turned around, he saw a bigger bull. “You don’t want
that dog, do you? Give it to me!” Miguelito went away and a big tear ran down
his cheek.
Then, he dreamt being an elephant. Miguelito, now
an elephant, proudly went for a walk. He saw the bull, which was standing by
a small river and wanted to drink. Therefore, he went up to the bull and
said, “You don’t want to drink, do you?” and the bull ran away.
Miguelito, rather satisfied, went to the river
and began to drink. But suddenly he slipped and fell in. He looked around and
saw crocodiles fast swimming towards him.
He tried to get out of the water, but the shore
was very slippery, so he couldn’t get out. By chance a smaller elephant came
around, saw Miguelito in the water and the crocodiles behind him, quickly
held his trunk to Miguelito and pulled him out.
Miguelito had understood that he needed friends
and so he proposed the smaller elephant to stay together.
When Miguelito, the mouse, woke up, he thought
about his dream and when he left his hole, he met his neighbour, Carlito.
“I’ve had a strange dream,” Carlito began, “I need friends.”
Miguelito was surprised but instantly understood
that this was his big chance. So he said, “Let’s be friends and help each
other!”
Now proudly, they went for a walk and when they
found a nut, they shared it. However, suddenly they heard a voice behind
them, “Hey, you two! You don’t want to eat that, do you? Give it to me!” And
when they turned around, they saw the big mouse which had always stolen their
nuts so far. But now, Miguelito and Carlito stood up and resisted the big
mouse.
As the big mouse saw that Miguelito and Carlito
together were stronger than him, he proposed to be friends with them. Like
that, they were three already. More and More mice came to join them and from
then on, they never quarrelled again but sat down to talk and to decide
together.
