Just a mirror

In a glacier, there was a cave, inside, a rock wall polished by the ice and on it a layer of clear, frozen water, a mirror of best quality. When the first monkeys discovered their portrait in the ice, they didn’t recognize themselves and thought that this had to be a kind of god.
But not everybody amongst the monkeys was superstitious, there was an inquisitive one who examined the phenomena a bit closer and found out that the background in the ice resembled to the other side of the cave. Then, he moved his hands, looked at them in the ice and discovered that they were just the same. He went to the other side of the cave and came closer again. Now, he was sure, it was him there in the ice.
Knowledge is power and he was ambitious enough to use his advantage.
Another monkey came into the cave and the clever one hid in a corner and began to talk in an altered voice. The other monkey thought that a god was before him and talking to him.
When the clever monkey spoke to the other monkeys in the cave pretending to be the voice of god, he ordered them to always come in one by one in order to prevent them recognizing each other in the mirror and nobody ever discovered that the godly voice was his. This went on for a long time and sometimes he used his power for the good of his people but on other occasions, he used it for his own aims.
There was a young and beautiful female, who was in love with another young male. The monkey pretending to be the voice of god as well wanted to marry her, so he told the couple that they couldn’t get married and that the female had to get married to another male. Of course, the couple was shocked. But what could they do?
The female monkey was suspicious when she heard the name of the male monkey she had to marry. She observed that this monkey was never present when the crowd waited in front of the cave to hear the word of god. Therefore, she began to follow the monkey and finally discovered his secret.
Some days before her wedding, when she was in the cave to hear the word of god, she went to the corner where the monkey was hiding. First, he was shocked, so she told him she would tell everybody about his secret if he forced her to marry him. The monkey had to give in and from then on, his rulings got normal again.
The female monkey finally could marry her lover. Actually, she should have been happy about it but doubts worried her whether the male monkey she had married was really the right male for her. First, he was not less superstitious than the others, second, he would have left her for the simple command of a mirror god.
