The beautiful but nasty little girl

Once upon a time, there was a very beautiful girl. She lived in a big room with many wonderful things. There was a golden mirror, many cupboards with a lot of clothes, some musical instruments and a bookshelf with some old books. The dust had already covered the musical instruments and the books because she never even looked at them. She just sat or stood in front of her golden mirror, dressed, undressed and combed her beautiful long hair. The mirror and the clothes were very happy and constantly told the little girl how beautiful she was but the books and musical instruments were very sad. “We will leave you,” they said to the girl. But she only laughed at them and kicked them out of the room, while the mirror and the dresses broke out in a horrible laughter. Now the books and musical instruments stood outside in the cold and dark hall and many tears ran down their cheeks. Outside they heard the laughter coming from the inside of the room. “Do we really deserve that?” they asked each other. However, one day, the little girl got very ill. She had to lay in bed all day long and even her golden mirror and her clothes couldn’t make her smile. Many doctors were called but when they examined her, they just couldn’t find anything. Then one evening, when she was asleep, she had to turn to the left and then to the right, but she couldn’t find peace in her dream. The mirror and the dresses looked at her with big anxiety. “Will she never get healthy again?” they asked each other. In her dream, she saw her golden mirror and dresses fighting with the books and musical instruments. Moreover, suddenly, a beautiful fairy appeared and the things stopped quarreling. She told the things, “your lady is bored, she is ill of boredom.” “Aren’t we interesting enough for her?” asked the mirror and the dresses. “You are very necessary for her,” answered the fairy, “but she needs a bit different entertainment as well.” Then she woke up. The mirror and the dresses came closer. The little girl opened her eyes a bit and said in a weak voice, “Bring the piano in!” At first the mirror and dresses couldn’t believe their ears and didn’t want to call for the piano, but when they saw that their lady felt very bad, they opened the door and pulled in the piano. Very quietly, it began to play and slowly she got a bit better. Then she asked for a tale to be told to her. A book was brought in and when it opened it told her a fairy tale. Slowly after some weeks, she was the old again. But not totally. Now, she didn’t send the books and musical instruments out again. From now on, she spend half of her time with her golden mirror and dresses and the other half of her time with the books and instruments. And them as well, they got on well together.

The father promised the children that he would do their homework with them and the children knew that he would make a tale out of each little task. So they fell asleep very satisfied and from then on always made their homework with their father together. It was always big fun and even the father learned things, which had not been known at his school time. When the children had grown up, they became teachers and never forgot that the material at school had to be presented in an interesting way to the children if the teacher really wanted the pupils to understand the world.
