The king dreams
There he sits on his throne. The representatives
of various animal species put their gifts down in front of him in order to
woo his favour. They wait in a long line queue for their appearance in front
of the king. They had all dressed up well and decorated themselves. A cute
monkey girl with a wreath of flowers around her waist offers him an open
coconut to drink. The elephant brings his grandfather's long tusks. Young
antelopes had picked a large bouquet of flowers on the heath. Giraffes bring
bananas. The queen bee is represented by a swarm to attend to her kind. Now
everyone is stepping back because the lion brings a soft fur as a gift. The
eagle lets its most beautiful feather sink in front of him. The bear had
collected honey in a jar from leaves. Wild boars sacrifice the best truffles
to him.
Then, he sits court and every animal can bring up
their complaints. The hyena had stolen a piece of meat, the fox a chicken,
and the snake an egg. The bees complain about the bear's honey theft, but are
not heard because the king received part of the prey as a tribute. The gift
of the lion on which the king is sitting once belonged to the rabbit, so the
rabbit tribe waits until the lion has disappeared. Many small animals and
herbivores are coming, who would expect support from their king, but they are
all rejected because the king's gifts mostly consist of them or their
products, or the donors are the chief's friends. The plaintiffs also dispute
cases to be settled among themselves.
Suddenly a great rumble can be heard under the
throne, small insects, ants, worms, moles and rabbits had undermined it. The
king's seat begins to shake and eventually falls.
The monkey had fallen from its tree and woken up.
The dream of being king had ended.
