The history of banana republic
Once upon a time, there was a wonderful valley
with many clean waters and very fertile soils. When the first monkeys of this
people arrived a thousand years ago, they chased the inhabitants and took
possession of the land. Because of their fast horses and special nomad
fighting methods, the valleys around were not secure of their forays and
raids. However, once they got beaten very severely and from then on decided
to live peacefully with their neighbours. A kingdom was established and they
tried to consolidate their power in the region.
Of course, kingdoms were not made to keep peace
and at that time, every king of the region tried to conquer the other’s realm.
With more or less success, the kings of our valley as well enlarged their
power but just to lose it again a bit later. Our valley as a state even
disappeared for five hundred years and many other monkey peoples mixed with
our inhabitants. As they were all suppressed by foreign powers, the
inhabitants of the villages and towns tried to live in peace at least with
their next-door citizens. A very interesting people came into being, blond,
brown, black and red haired, long tailed and short tailed, long eared and
small eared, big nosed and stub nosed.
Suddenly, the valley was left alone and had the
possibility to form its own government. They swore not to have a king
anymore, but democracy didn’t work out well. A dictatorship was established
which fought against real and imagined, outer and inner enemies at the same
time for twenty-five years. There are hardly any stub nosed monkeys left in
that valley because they were nearly annihilated by their mate inhabitants.
Again, a big power occupied the valley for
forty-five years. Sooner or later, all big powers collapse and that way, our
valley got free again.
For around thirty years, the monkeys of the
valley tried really hard to organize democracy. However, not all of them
liked this system based on equal rights for everybody. In reality, it was not
really equal rights for everybody. Especially the poor and the long eared,
who were said to be lazy and thievish, were the despised of the society. And
there were the unable, blond haired monkeys considering themselves the elite
of the valley who thought they were worthy of a better fate.
Much before the democratic system broke down,
there was a mixed breed of long eared and black haired ancestors, a real Mafioso,
he gathered the blond haired around himself and promised them if they licked
his feet, he would make them the masters first of the valley and then of the
whole region.
He bought the police, the judges and the blond
intellectuals, then slowly crashed all economic competitors by special laws
and restrictions and has established a kind of dictatorship.
So far, one-tenth of the monkeys have left the
valley and part of the opposition left is endangered of imprisonment.
If one asks monkeys on the streets, especially in
bigger towns and cities, one can feel the apathy and helplessness, but if one
tries to encourage resistance, one is always told, “Don’t be so impatient! One
day all tyranny gets to an end.” or “Don’t make the murky water even murkier!”
This is the history of
Orbanistan or Hungary by its former name!
